Faced with cutbacks to police, fire and ambulance services, Lewisham Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee is to discuss how to undertake a review of emergency services in the borough. The meeting will take place on Monday, Feb 11 at 7:30pm in the Civic Suite of Lewisham Town Hall.

The borough stands to lose two police stations at Sydenham and Brockley and an additional two stations at Catford and Deptford have been idenitified for reduced opening hours. But the Met maintains that the changes would mean an extra 54 police officers in the area by 2015.

Further, two fire stations — New Cross and Downham — are slated for closure as part of the London Fire Brigade’s budget crunching. Though the LFB says that response times will be unaffected by the plans.

If the review goes forward, the committee will clarify the key policy initiatives and financial constraints, identify the local implications for services and consider the impact of any service changes.
