It’s what you think of when you think of a castle, according to the promotional literature at Bodiam Castle.

It was built in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, a former knight of Edward III, with the permission of Richard II. Later owners restored and conserved the castle, which was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1925 by its last private owner, Lord Curzon.
