I lived in Houston for a little over a year. I expected Houston to be nothing more than a car city, the unholy love-child of Orlando and Los Angeles. And while, yes, it was decidedly a car city, Houston had a deeper layer. Perhaps its emptiness — people were few and far between on the streets — forced me to see it in a different light.
In a lot of ways, London and Houston are similar. They are both giants. They are both jumbles of styles and uses. London has built on itself due to age. Houston is a hodgepodge because it lacks zoning.
